Although HBO has not disclosed an exact premiere date, they have revealed a release window for The Last of Us Season 2. Fans can expect to see Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) back on their screens in Spring 2025.
According to IGN, during a recent presentation to journalists on November 12, HBO and Max content CEO Casey Bloys announced the spring timeframe for the video game adaptation. Earlier this week, a Max trailer for 2025 showcased new footage from The Last of Us Season 2, hinting at growing distance between Joel and Ellie, and an infected swarm attacking what appears to be the town of Jackson.
The Last of Us Season 2 was initially slated for a 2025 release, even before the historic Hollywood strikes last year. In September, Bloys suggested that the show might return in the first half of the following year. The first season debuted in January 2023 on HBO, also available on Max.
The upcoming season will feature a time jump, but Ellie will not be recast. Additionally, The Last of Us Season 2 will not encompass all events from the video game sequel, indicating the possibility of a third season and potentially more. However, the show's writer, Craig Mazin, has previously stated that The Last of Us will not outstay its welcome.
Alongside Pascal and Ramsey, The Last of Us Season 2 will introduce Kaitlyn Dever as Abby in a prominent role. Other new cast members include Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Catherine O'Hara in an unspecified role.
