Where's Batman when you really need him? HBO's 'The Penguin' is a spin-off from 'The Batman,' and the Dark Knight is nowhere to be found while a gang war rages between the Falcone and Maroni crime families.
Oswald 'Oz' Cobblepot (Colin Farrell) orchestrated the conflict to establish himself as Gotham City's new kingpin. However, as revealed in the new mid-season trailer for 'The Penguin,' Oz faces a formidable adversary in Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), the legitimate heir to the Falcone family's empire.
Oz managed to deceive Sofia into believing he supported her bid to lead the Falcone family. He also concealed the crucial fact that he murdered her brother, Alberto Falcone (Michael Zegen), in a moment of fury. Now, Sofia is aware of the truth and is determined to exact revenge on Oz.
The trailer indicates that both Oz and Sofia will have their own loyal followers in the remaining four episodes of the miniseries. These factions are inevitably heading towards a confrontation as the battle for Gotham City intensifies. It's the kind of scenario that might warrant the intervention of a certain billionaire in a bat suit.
Sofia may have the numerical advantage and name recognition, but this is Oz's fight to lose. He has already incited three of the city's major crime figures against each other. Unfortunately for the Penguin, this has also made him numerous new enemies, potentially leading to unexpected alliances against him in the coming weeks.
'The Penguin' airs weekly on HBO and Max, with the Season 1 finale set for November 10.
