Activision has unveiled the latest installment in its 'Replacer' series of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 advertisements, and it might just be the best and funniest one yet. For those just tuning in, Peter Stormare portrays a character known as The Replacer; he's the man who steps in when you're too engrossed in playing Call of Duty to handle your other commitments.
In this newest ad, The Replacer takes over for Tonya on Jeopardy, engaging in a hilarious back-and-forth with Jeopardy host Ken Jennings, which eventually leads to The Replacer replacing Jennings himself. It's a clever nod to Saturday Night Live's popular Jeopardy spoofs, where a contestant disrupts the host.
Activision has produced over two dozen of these Replacer ads for Black Ops 6, with Stormare replacing a wide array of individuals, including TV hosts, the Pope, NFL player Kyler Murray, boxer Canelo Alvarez, podcast host Joe Rogan, and political analysts. All these spots can be viewed on the Call of Duty YouTube page.
Stormare's character, The Replacer, made his debut in 2013 and has since become a staple in Activision's Black Ops marketing efforts. The first commercial featuring The Replacer for Black Ops 6 was aired during NFL games in September.
Interestingly, The Replacer has even replaced an in-game character in Call of Duty: Warzone, Graves, sparking speculation that he might be introduced into the game at some point. Whether this will come to fruition remains to be seen.
Black Ops 6 was launched on October 25 and quickly gained popularity. The game recently welcomed the fan-favorite multiplayer map Nuketown on November 1. Looking forward, Black Ops 6 Season 1 kicks off on November 14, which also marks the debut of Call of Duty: Warzone's latest map, Area 99.
