The Russo Brothers are back! After venturing into the expansive world of crime sagas with Cherry and diving into the realm of espionage with The Gray Man, the duo behind Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame are now embarking on a road trip movie with a robotic twist in The Electric State. This post-apocalyptic sci-fi film is based on Simon Stålenhag's striking 2018 graphic novel.

With an all-star cast featuring Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Giancarlo Esposito, and Brian Cox, and a thought-provoking premise—What if a 90s AI war turned America into a robot-infested wasteland?—it seems like a return to the Russos' genre roots. Check out the trailer below:

Set to a slowed-down version of Oasis' 'Champagne Supernova' and filled with quintessential post-apocalyptic imagery—dystopian headsets, rusting robots, spontaneous fire pits, and deserted frontier-like towns—The Electric State evokes the spirit of classic 80s, Amblinesque adventures, complete with Chris Pratt sporting a questionable handlebar mustache. After an ominous android rebellion, we learn from Brown's Michelle that 'humans lost connection,' but with Pratt's rogue Keats ready for a perilous journey across the States with Michelle, it seems connection might finally be within reach.

With the addition of Ke Huy Quan, screen-faced Giancarlo Esposito, and a myriad of bots in various shapes and sizes (including Planters mascot Mr. Peanut!), the film promises an exciting adventure. Here's the synopsis: 'The Electric State follows a young woman (Michelle, played by Brown) who embarks on a perilous journey across the robot-ravaged US, accompanied by a mysterious toy robot and a roguish smuggler (Pratt). Together, they’ll uncover a mechanical conspiracy at the heart of America.'

Written by the Russo Brothers' regular collaborators, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and featuring a stellar ensemble cast, The Electric State is based on one of the most visually stunning graphic novels of the last decade. It has us energized, excited, and eagerly awaiting its release on 14 March, 2025. *Alexa—play an even slower 'Champagne Supernova' with added reverb.*
