The iconic "plumbob" symbols from The Sims seem to be making an appearance in a new film set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The movie, titled Twinless, revolves around two friends who connect through a counseling group for twin loss. Twinless will be showcased as part of Sundance's "U.S. Dramatic Competition," but Deadline has described it as a "dark comedy." A promotional image shared on Sundance's social media shows actors Dylan O'Brian and James Sweeney—who also writes and directs—with what appear to be plumbobs attached to their heads using wire. Sweeney previously directed, wrote, and starred in the romantic comedy Straight Up.

In The Sims, the plumbob is a green crystal shape that identifies the Sim currently under the player's control. It also serves as a key symbol for the franchise, often integrated into the game's logos. The reason for the plumbob's inclusion in Twinless remains unclear, though it might be part of the characters' Halloween costumes or a similar concept. GameSpot has contacted EA for comment but has yet to receive a response.

In other Sims-related news, a movie adaptation is in development, produced by Margot Robbie and directed by Kate Herron (Loki). Amazon MGM and EA confirmed the project's progress in September 2024. While plot details are still undisclosed, an EA representative hinted at the appearance of the "freezer bunny" mascot character. Additionally, The Sims 5, also known as Project Rene, is underway. EA has assured fans that Sims 4 support will not be discontinued when Project Rene launches.
