Since The Super Mario Bros. Movie debuted on Netflix, it has consistently ranked among the platform's top 10 most popular films. However, Mario's tenure on Netflix is nearing its end, as the streaming giant plans to remove the movie after October 2.
For those with access to Peacock, there's a silver lining: The Super Mario Bros. Movie will return to the Comcast-owned service on October 3. When the film premiered in theaters in 2023, it achieved phenomenal success, grossing $574.9 million domestically and $1.36 billion globally. It stands as the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, and a sequel was confirmed last year.
On this year's Mario Day, Nintendo, Illumination, and Universal Pictures announced that the sequel's release date is set for April 3, 2026. Mario isn't the only film bidding farewell to Netflix. Several other beloved titles are also exiting the platform, including Crazy Rich Asians, It Follows, the original Hellboy, La La Land, Sonic the Hedgehog, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and nearly all the Chucky films. Even the popular Comedy Central series, Key & Peele, is leaving Netflix, making it a must-watch before it's gone.
