Nearly a decade has passed since The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt was released on consoles. Although the next game in the series is still some time off, CD Projekt is eager to reveal what they have planned for The Witcher 4, which has now officially entered full-scale production.

In an interview with Eurogamer, CD Projekt executives—including CEO Michał Nowakowski and vice president of technology Charles Tremblay—confirmed that The Witcher 4 will surpass both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 in terms of scale and quality. Tremblay stated, "We have some exciting developments underway, and we hope they will demonstrate our technological advancements. The key point is that while we may update our technology, our ambition remains unchanged. The next game will be larger and superior to The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, as it is unacceptable for us to regress." He added, "We don't want to go back."

CD Projekt also aims to avoid the marketing pitfalls experienced with Cyberpunk 2077. Nowakowski emphasized that they will only start the marketing campaign when the game is truly ready. While teaser videos and other small-scale promotions will be used to generate fan interest and secure pre-orders, the major, high-budget trailers and assets will be held back until a more concrete release date is set. Nowakowski clarified, "I want to emphasize that this doesn’t mean we won’t tease or release some exciting assets before a full reveal. The marketing campaign, slightly before the game's launch, is different from the 'mass attack'—when we announce the release date, start collecting pre-orders, and enter the final sprint to launch."

No plot details for The Witcher 4 have been disclosed, but CD Projekt management anticipates smoother development for The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6, as the foundational work will already be established. They estimate that each of these games will take about three years to develop, suggesting that this new Witcher trilogy will extend into the 2030s.
