In honor of World Diabetes Day, Thumbay Hospital Fujairah successfully organized a Walkathon on November 17. The event, designed to increase awareness about diabetes prevention and encourage healthier living, attracted an impressive turnout of over 500 participants from diverse segments of the community. The Walkathon commenced at Thumbay Hospital Fujairah and proceeded along a route to the Fujairah Football Stadium Roundabout. Representatives from hospital staff, government bodies, local schools, universities, insurance firms, community groups, and corporate entities united to support this initiative. Participants were seen carrying banners and holding placards with vital health messages to enhance public awareness about diabetes and its escalating prevalence in the UAE.
Dr. Manish Singhal, COO of Thumbay Hospital Fujairah, stated: “The walkathon not only highlights the significance of a healthy lifestyle in preventing diabetes but also underscores the importance of regular health screenings in early risk factor identification.” By providing free blood sugar and blood pressure tests during the event, we aim to equip individuals with the knowledge to manage their health and make informed decisions for a healthier future.” In addition to the walkathon, Thumbay Hospital offered complimentary blood pressure and blood sugar testing, enabling participants to assess their health status and receive guidance on managing and preventing diabetes.
Commenting on the initiative, Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of Thumbay Healthcare, noted: “Diabetes is rapidly emerging as one of the most significant health challenges in our region. Our objective through this campaign is to motivate people to adopt positive steps towards a healthier lifestyle, which can substantially lower their risk of developing diabetes. With appropriate management, individuals with diabetes can lead long, healthy, and independent lives. The walkathon is just one of the many ways we are striving to inspire people to take proactive steps for a healthier future.”
