Tom Hanks recently shared the age he wouldn't want to revisit, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. When asked if there was an age he'd like to relive after filming his new movie "Here," Hanks was clear: "No. I'm 68 now, and the toughest part was playing 35." He explained, "That's when your metabolism slows, gravity takes over, and your bones start to wear. I feel better now."
After being complimented on his appearance, Hanks attributed it to his grown children, decent exercise, and a balanced diet. "You can't do that at 35," he noted, adding, "Life was a burden then!" The journalist jokingly suggested everyone follow Hanks' routine, but he humbly replied, "I'm just maintaining my 68-year-old, type 2 diabetic body."
Interestingly, Hanks didn't star in any films at 35 in 1991. However, he appeared in three projects the following year, including his famous role in "A League of Their Own." Thirty years after his iconic role in "Forrest Gump," Hanks has reunited with director Robert Zemeckis and co-star Robin Wright for "Here."
The film follows Richard (Hanks) and Margaret (Wright) living in the same house over a century. Zemeckis described the project as "never done before," with the couple appearing from their 20s to their elderly years through computer-generated effects. "It works because the performances are excellent," Zemeckis said. "Both Tom and Robin had to channel their younger selves, adjusting posture and voice."
Paul Bettany plays Hanks' onscreen dad, as the movie captures the human experience. Richard, an aspiring artist, is overshadowed by family responsibilities in the '70s and '80s. Meanwhile, Margaret urges Richard to explore the world. Zemeckis explained, "The film shows we must accept change. When we resist, we miss opportunities."
"Here" premieres in theaters on Friday.
