Earlier this month, Tom Holland disclosed that he and Zendaya have already perused an early draft for Spider-Man 4, which ignited excitement in both of them. Although Holland hasn't divulged what part of the script 'sparked a flame' within him, he has reiterated his aspiration to share the MCU screen with Marvel's younger Spider-Man, Miles Morales.
Before Holland delved into his hope for a Peter Parker/Miles Morales team-up, he recounted a story on Rich Roll's YouTube show about how Robert Downey Jr. championed him during his first MCU appearance as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. 'When I arrived on set after securing the role and... I was meeting Marissa [Tomei] for the first time, and I was now working with the Russos and Downey,' Holland reminisced. 'My scene had been drastically reduced from what I had done in the audition to now a page and a half, or perhaps even two pages. And we began shooting the scene, and Downey interjected, asking, 'Where have all the kids' lines gone?' The Russos explained, 'Well, this is already a 140-page script... We can't allocate too much time to this.'
Holland continued, stating that Downey insisted the entire scene be shot as originally written, with the option for the Russos to trim it down in post-production if necessary. Instead, the directors utilized the entire introductory scene as filmed, and Holland expressed his appreciation to Downey for that decision. 'I think that's really cool, and I'd love to one day do the same if I'm fortunate enough to somehow bring Miles Morales into my Spider-Man universe and into the MCU,' Holland said. 'I'd love to do for a young actor what Downey did for me. It's a way of honoring the introduction of a new character and a certain level of respect.'
If Holland remains as Spider-Man long enough, he will almost certainly collaborate with a live-action Miles Morales at some point. Currently, the only known detail about Spider-Man 4 is that Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton has been signed to direct the film, which does not yet have a release date.
