Almost three years ago, Tom Holland starred in Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside his immediate predecessors, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, resulting in Sony's highest-grossing film to date. Since then, Holland hasn't returned to the MCU in a hurry, nor has he made any cameo appearances. Nevertheless, Holland remains committed to Peter Parker's next adventure and has already read the script for Spider-Man 4.

"I read [the Spider-Man 4 script] three weeks ago and it really ignited my passion," Holland shared during his recent appearance on Rich Roll's YouTube show. "Zendaya and I sat down, read it together, and we were so excited that we were literally jumping around the living room, saying, 'This is a movie that truly deserves the fans' respect.' But there are a few things we need to iron out before we can fully commit."

Holland didn't disclose that Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is in discussions to direct Spider-Man 4, but he did mention that "there are fantastic people working on it now." He also emphasized that "we have a creative concept, a pitch, and a draft that is excellent. It needs some refinement, but the writers are doing an outstanding job."

Furthermore, Holland reiterated his stance that he won't return for any film that doesn't meet the standards set by his previous Spider-Man movies. He's now leveraging his growing influence in the industry to ensure that happens. "I'm at a point where I can say 'no,' and now that I have that power, I'm grappling with what the right decision is. It's forced me to stand my ground in situations where I couldn't before. I think the challenge I'm facing now is managing this newfound power responsibly, ensuring I don't misuse it, but also making sure I do what's best for me and, ultimately, for the character. I don't want to make another movie just for the sake of it."

Sony and Marvel have yet to announce a release date for Spider-Man 4.
