Just last month, we shared the thrilling news that Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to helm the next MCU Spider-Man movie. Now, Tom Holland, the web-slinging hero himself, has provided further updates on the upcoming fourth installment, marking Spidey's first adventure since 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. During a recent interview on the Rich Roll podcast, the Uncharted star disclosed that he and his co-star girlfriend Zendaya recently reviewed a new draft of Spider-Man 4.
"We have a creative concept and a pitch, along with a draft that is quite promising," Holland stated while discussing the progress on his next Spider-Man film. "It requires some refinement, but the writers are doing an outstanding job. I read it three weeks ago and it truly ignited my passion," he continued. "Zendaya and I sat down together to read it, and at times, we were so excited that we were literally jumping around the living room, saying, 'This is a film that truly deserves the fans' respect.'"
Expanding on the intricate process of creating a film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland also emphasized the logistical hurdles of getting Spider-Man 4 off the ground. "One of the key aspects to consider with Marvel is that your film is just one part of a much larger machine," Holland explained on the podcast. "That machine must keep moving, and you need to ensure that your project fits into that timeline at the right moment to benefit the overall narrative. That's one of the challenges we're currently facing. The timeframe we have to accomplish this is quite demanding, but definitely manageable with the incredible team we have working on it."
While ensuring that everyone's favorite Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man gets the sequel he deserves is a daunting task, Holland also reiterated his desire to someday pass the mantle to a new wall-crawler—specifically, Miles Morales. "If I were fortunate enough to introduce Miles Morales into my Spider-Man universe and the MCU, I would love to do for a young actor what [Robert] Downey [Jr.] did for me," said Holland, who began portraying Peter Parker at the age of 19.
At this point, we don't know when Spider-Man 4 will hit theaters, what it will entail, or if there are any solid plans for Miles Morales to make his live-action MCU debut in the near future. But one thing is certain—we can't wait to find out!
