Tom Parker Bowles, the 49-year-old son of Queen Camilla, recently shared his experience of being told to 'f–k off' by his doctor when he inquired about obtaining Ozempic, a drug popular in Hollywood for weight loss, which is also used to treat diabetes. Realizing he was 'getting too fat,' Parker Bowles approached his doctor for the medication, but his request was met with a stern rebuke. Ozempic is not approved in the UK for weight loss purposes.
'I’m far too old to care about this sort of thing,' Parker Bowles told Vogue in a September interview, 'but I went to my doctor the other day, who I love, and I said, ‘Can I have some Ozempic, please?’' His doctor, however, attributed his weight gain to his unhealthy habits, particularly his profession as a food writer and critic. 'He just went, ‘f–k off. You’re a food writer,’' Parker Bowles recounted. '‘All these excess calories are coming from booze.’'
Parker Bowles, who has authored seven cookbooks and launched a food brand called Mr. Trotter’s Great British Pork Crackling, which later expanded to include Mr. Trotter’s Chestnut Ale, defended his drinking habits, claiming he only drinks three times a week. Despite this, his doctor reportedly told him that the amount of rosé he consumes weekly is equivalent to about 18 cheeseburgers.
In a recent piece for You Magazine, Parker Bowles discussed his passion for food, stating, 'I became a food writer because I was sacked from pretty much any other job I ever did. I could string a sentence together and eat. Twenty-five years on, I’m still here and still loving every moment. God I’m lucky, and I’ll never, ever grow bored of food. Although, as I get older, I crave simplicity more and more.' His comfort foods include cottage pie with peas, roast chicken, an aggressively spicy noodle soup, and a McDonald’s cheeseburger.
This interview comes as Daily Mail reports that King Charles III, Parker Bowles' stepfather, will 'pause' his cancer treatment for 11 days during his royal tour of Australia next week. The 75-year-old monarch was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024 and has been receiving weekly treatment. Buckingham Palace has not disclosed the type of cancer, though he did undergo prostate surgery earlier this year.
Adding to the royal family's health concerns, Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, announced her own cancer battle in March. She revealed in September that she is cancer-free after undergoing chemotherapy. Kate has gradually returned to public duties, making her first appearance since treatment on September 17 and visiting Southport with her husband on October 10 to meet with the families of the young girls who died in a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in July.
