Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft made its debut on Netflix earlier this month, and the animated series has already been greenlit for a second season. Given that Netflix has already released a sneak peek from Season 2, it appears the renewal was secured well before the show's premiere.

Netflix shared the news on its Tudum platform, along with an image of Lara (played by Hayley Atwell) reuniting with her best friend, Sam Nishimura (Karen Fukuhara of The Boys), whom she had largely lost touch with after the events of the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot. The eight-episode first season took place after the events of 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider, aiming to connect the Lara of the reboot trilogy with her classic persona from the original Tomb Raider games. The season received a score of 65 on Metacritic, indicating generally positive reviews.

Lara and Sam were separated throughout the first season, but the finale's closing moments suggested that their story would continue in the next season. According to Netflix, Season 2 will see Lara and Sam reunite to recover stolen African Orisha masks, which possess hidden powers and dark secrets. Their main adversary is described as a dangerous and enigmatic billionaire intent on acquiring the masks for herself.

Tomb Raider showrunner Tasha Huo provided a brief insight into the upcoming season's theme. "Season 1 was about Lara coming to terms with how her father dealt with grief, which involved isolation," Huo explained. "In Season 2, we aim to build Lara's team, transforming her from a solitary hero into someone who realizes the value of having a strong support system."

Netflix has yet to announce a release date for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft Season 2, but the first season is currently available for streaming.
