An upcoming Tomb Raider TV series, spearheaded by Emmy-winning writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, has sparked speculation about who might take on the iconic role of Lara Croft. According to Deadline, Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner and Bohemian Rhapsody's Lucy Boynton are among the top contenders for the part. The report indicates that while they have not yet auditioned, both actresses are being seriously considered.

The role of Lara Croft has previously been embodied by Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie in multiple Tomb Raider films, and more recently by another Academy Award recipient, Alicia Vikander, in the 2018 reboot. Deadline's sources suggest that the casting process for the new series is being conducted with utmost secrecy, making it one of the most anticipated TV casting searches of the fall season.

In addition to Turner and Boynton, Emma Corrin of Deadpool & Wolverine and Mackenzie Davis from Station Eleven are also on the wishlist, though it is not believed that they are currently testing for the role. The report does not mention any other names, but it is likely that other actors are under consideration.

The Tomb Raider TV series is set to be produced for Prime Video, a platform owned by Amazon, which is also publishing the next Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics. Notably, this new game is not connected to the upcoming series.

Waller-Bridge, known for creating the series Fleabag and writing and producing Killing Eve, has previously worked on projects like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and contributed to the script of the James Bond film No Time to Die. Her diverse experience in action-adventure storytelling positions her well to bring Lara Croft to life on the small screen.

The 2018 Tomb Raider movie, starring Vikander, grossed $275 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing video game adaptations of all time. Plans for a sequel with Vikander were in motion, but the acquisition of MGM by Amazon has complicated the situation.
