Over the past six months, the General Department of Traffic has documented 94 traffic accidents. Among these, 64 were attributed to non-compliance with mandatory lanes, and 14 were caused by drivers going against the traffic flow.
Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, emphasized the grave errors made by some drivers that can lead to devastating traffic accidents. He noted that many people fall victim to these errors due to a lack of awareness among drivers about the seriousness of their traffic violations. Some drivers mistakenly view their violations as minor, yet they can lead to tragic accidents that harm innocent individuals.
Brigadier bin Suwaidan observed several traffic violations on the streets of the emirate that nearly resulted in severe accidents. These violations included dangerous reversing, driving against the traffic flow, and not adhering to mandatory lanes. Drivers often committed these violations to enter main streets, leading to some of the most hazardous accidents due to collisions between vehicles moving in opposite directions towards a single point.
The General Department of Traffic's statistics revealed that in the past six months, 94 traffic accidents were recorded. Of these, 64 were due to not adhering to mandatory lanes, and 14 were caused by driving against the traffic flow. Additionally, 16 accidents were due to failing to adhere to mandatory lanes.
Last year, a total of 177 traffic accidents were recorded, with 113 caused by not adhering to mandatory lanes. Violations of driving against the traffic flow resulted in 28 accidents, while failing to adhere to mandatory lanes led to 36 accidents.
Brigadier bin Suwaidan highlighted that the Federal Traffic and Traffic Law imposes a fine of Dh600 and six traffic points for driving against the traffic flow. The fine for dangerous reversing is Dh500 with four traffic points, and the fine for not adhering to mandatory lanes for light vehicles is Dh400.
