A 24-year-old firefighter tragically lost his life when a tree fell on him during a forest fire fight northeast of Jasper in Alberta, Canada, on Saturday, according to a police statement.

The firefighter, a resident of Calgary, was stationed at the Rocky Mountain House Fire Base, as confirmed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The RCMP received notice of a severe injury to an Alberta Wildland fire employee who was subsequently removed from the incident site.

In late July, a colossal wildfire, with flames reaching 100 meters high, ravaged the popular tourist town of Jasper, destroying nearly a third of its structures. Currently, there are 120 active wildfires in the province.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his sorrow on social media, stating, "Heartbroken by the news that a firefighter has lost his life while battling the wildfires in Jasper. His loss is deeply felt." Alberta's Minister of Forestry and Parks, Todd Loewen, also offered his condolences.
