President-elect Donald Trump shared with The Post on Wednesday that he and President Biden had a pleasant encounter during their historic post-election meeting in the Oval Office. “You know, it’s been a long, it’s been a long slog,” the 78-year-old remarked during a phone interview as he departed Washington. “It’s been a lot of work on both sides and he did a very good job with respect to campaigning and everything else. We really had a really good meeting.” The two most recent presidents of the United States engaged in discussions about the transition of power on Jan. 20, with Trump assuring Biden in front of the global press that it would be “as smooth as can be” following the Republican’s previous attempt to challenge the results, which led to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

“It’s going very smoothly,” Trump told The Post regarding the process of selecting officials for his second term, adding that the Republican transition team and the Biden White House maintain a “very, very good relationship.” The president-elect further mentioned that he and Biden did touch upon two contentious issues: the war in Ukraine, which Trump vowed to end almost immediately upon assuming office; and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, where the Republican candidate criticized the Biden administration for not being sufficiently supportive of Israel.

“I wanted — I asked for his views and he gave them to me,” Trump told The Post. “Also, we talked very much about the Middle East, likewise. I wanted to know his views on where we are and what he thinks. And he gave them to me, he was very gracious.”
