US President-elect Donald Trump has chosen South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to be the next secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, according to CNN, which cited two sources on Tuesday. As the process of selecting his cabinet began following Trump's clear victory on November 7, Trump announced late Sunday that he was reappointing hardline immigration official Tom Homan to manage the country's borders in his upcoming administration. The 78-year-old Republican leader has vowed to initiate, on the first day of his presidency, the most extensive deportation operation of undocumented immigrants in US history.

On Monday, CNN and The New York Times reported that Donald Trump has selected former army special forces veteran and prominent China hawk Michael Waltz for the critical role of National Security Advisor in the White House. Both agencies reported Waltz's imminent appointment on Monday, citing anonymous sources. Later on Monday night, The New York Times also reported that Donald Trump is likely to appoint Florida Senator Marco Rubio as secretary of state. The publication quoted three individuals as saying that the decision is not yet final, but Trump seems to have settled on Rubio, a loyalist whom Trump overlooked as his vice presidential running mate.

On Thursday, Trump appointed his campaign manager Susie Wiles as his White House chief of staff, marking the first time a woman has been named to this high-profile position and the Republican's initial appointment to his incoming administration.
