Democratic Vice-President Kamala Harris phoned Donald Trump on Wednesday to extend her congratulations to the Republican leader on his victory in the US presidential election, according to two aides to Harris. Harris, who is set to make public remarks later on Wednesday, also "discussed the significance of a peaceful transfer of power and the duty of being a president for all Americans," as stated by a senior aide to Harris.

US President Joe Biden is anticipated to speak with Donald Trump by phone on Wednesday and offer his congratulations to the Republican leader on his projected presidential election triumph, as reported by an ABC News correspondent on X. The reporter mentioned that Biden plans to make public remarks on Thursday.

Donald Trump secured the U.S. presidency on Wednesday with a remarkable comeback victory, four years after he was voted out of the White House. This outcome reflects the support of tens of millions of voters who embraced a vision of leadership that is likely to challenge democratic institutions domestically and international relations. Trump, 78, reclaimed the White House with ease after a campaign characterized by divisive rhetoric that intensified the polarization within the country. He prevailed despite two assassination attempts and a late decision by Democrats to field Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July.

The incoming president further solidified his election victory tally on Wednesday when American media declared the state of Michigan in his favor, flipping three battleground states known as the "Blue Wall" where Democrats have traditionally held sway. With over 95 percent of precincts reporting, NBC and Fox News called the northern former manufacturing stronghold for Trump, elevating his reported Electoral College tally to 292, compared to 224 for the defeated Democratic rival Kamala Harris.
