Two expatriates lost their lives in Oman when an old building collapsed on them early on Sunday. The incident occurred in the Wilayat of Sur, within the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, according to a statement from the country's Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA). After hours of effort, CDAA rescue teams managed to retrieve the bodies of the deceased from the debris.

"Rescue teams from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Department in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate have been responding to a report of an old building collapsing on two individuals in the Wilayat of Sur since dawn today. Teams recovered the bodies of two Asian nationals, who were pronounced dead," the CDAA announced on X.

The Oman Observer identified the deceased as an elderly Indian couple, Purushottam Neera Nandi (88) and his wife Padmini, citing a local source. The couple, originally from the Indian state of Gujarat, had been residing in Oman since the 1940s. Reports suggest that the building's collapse was due to heavy rainfall in the area, with Sur experiencing over 200mm of rain in two days as a result of recent tropical conditions.
