Two years have passed since the release of Mani Ratnam's grand historical film 'Ponniyin Selvan -1,' featuring Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Recently, actor Sobhita Dhulipala delighted fans by sharing a group photo of the cast, including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, and others.
In her post, Sobhita humorously captioned the photo, 'Gonna tell my kids these were THE AVENGERS. 2 years of PS 1.' The post quickly garnered enthusiastic responses from fans, with one user commenting, 'HAPPY 2 YEARS TO THIS EPIC MOVIE,' and another declaring it the 'Best movie ever.'
This Tamil film, directed by the legendary Mani Ratnam, was a massive success in Tamil Nadu and among the Tamil diaspora. It was adapted from a fictional novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, which was itself inspired by the life of the illustrious emperor Rajaraja I of the Chola Empire. The film also performed well in its Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada dubbed versions across India.
At the recent South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2024, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan won the Best Actress in a Leading Role (Critics) award for her outstanding performance in 'Ponniyin Selvan 2.' Her co-star, Chiyaan Vikram, also received the Best Actor (Tamil) award at the same event.
'Ponniyin Selvan 2,' directed by Mani Ratnam, is the sequel to the 2022 film. Actor Kamal Haasan provided the narration, and the music was composed by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman.
