The UAE has reached a notable landmark with its inaugural simultaneous robotic kidney transplant for both a donor and a recipient, utilizing a single robot. This pioneering surgical operation was conducted by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, a member of the M42 group, in partnership with Cleveland Clinic USA. The process encompassed a UAE National donor and recipient, each managed in distinct operating rooms but with the same robotic apparatus, which accurately replicates the movements of surgeons. This approach, which is minimally invasive, provides advantages such as lessened bodily harm, diminished blood loss, and a swifter recuperation period.
Dr. Rashed Obaid Alsuwaidi from the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi underscored this accomplishment as evidence of Abu Dhabi's position as a premier international healthcare hub. Dr. George Haber, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, stressed the critical role of collaboration in propelling healthcare forward. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the nation's pioneer in multi-organ transplantation, is also investigating the application of robotic technology in liver transplants. The institution has previously executed seven successful robotic-assisted donor surgeries, with the goal of reducing incision sizes and enhancing patient recovery outcomes.
