Applicants under the UAE amnesty program, aiming to secure a residence or travel permit, can now finalize their applications online via the Federal Authority For Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) website and smart platforms. Although the majority of processes can be conducted remotely, an in-person visit to an immigration center might be necessary if authorities specifically request it, especially for individuals with incomplete biometric data. The amnesty period extends from September 1 to October 30, 2024. The ICP advises that those seeking a residence permit should gather all necessary documents and apply through digital and smart channels, eliminating the need to visit any center. However, a visit may be required if notified, particularly for those lacking biometric records. During such visits, applicants will finalize their documentation to smoothly transition to the smart service. For those choosing to travel, preparation of passport and ticket is essential, followed by submitting a departure permit request electronically. They will instantly receive the permit unless notified to visit centers to complete biometric records and finalize their file before obtaining the electronic departure permit. The new regulations allow individuals planning to exit the UAE to receive a 14-day exit permit. If this permit expires during the amnesty period, departure is still permitted. However, if the permit expires post-amnesty and the individual remains in the country, the permit will be automatically voided, and previous fines and any active travel bans will be reinstated.
