As the UAE's amnesty scheme commenced today, community-oriented organizations and businesses have intensified their efforts, offering refreshments to support overstayers amidst Dubai's severe summer heat. The UAE's ongoing amnesty program permits illegal residents to legalize their status, allowing them to remain in the country or return home without facing bans, fines, or exit fees. Companies have adopted proactive strategies to guarantee that vulnerable expats have access to essential supplies, including water and fruits.
Berrymount Dubai, a local enterprise, has initiated a campaign to distribute free coconut water to overstayers at Al Amer Center in Al Aweer while they apply for their outpass to depart the country. Zubair and Faisal, employees at Berrymount Dubai, stated: “Today we are providing coconut water” said Zubair. “We are here to ensure people stay hydrated in the heat, by offering water and fruits for free.” The campaign is scheduled to continue over the next two months of the amnesty scheme, with daily distributions of vital items like fruits and water to those in need. Coconut water serves not only as a refreshing drink but also delivers essential electrolytes, making it an ideal choice for hydration in extreme heat conditions.
“We recognize the challenges people are encountering, particularly those who may lack the means to purchase even a bottle of water,” Zubair added. “That’s why we are dedicated to maintaining this distribution throughout the amnesty period.” The initiative by Berrymount Dubai is part of a broader movement of solidarity among various Dubai-based organizations committed to aiding those in need. Vijay Kumar from Mazaa International, actively engaged in similar endeavors, said: “We are here to support those enduring tough times. Today we distributed over 500 drinks, and we intend to increase the quantity daily. Our aim is to provide assistance to people who are here dealing with any kind of issues.”
Community members are urged to contribute in any capacity they can, whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness about these charitable activities. “Our city is renowned for its luxury, but it should also be recognized for its generosity and care for everyone, irrespective of their circumstances,” said Faisal. “We aspire to set an example and motivate others to step forward and assist. Together, we can effect a positive change.”
