Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, assessed the progress of the UAE's relief efforts in the Philippines following the recent impact of tropical storm Kristine (Trami). Sheikh Hamdan conducted a phone call with a delegation from the ERC in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, where he received updates on the ongoing relief operations.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that the ERC is fully committed to realizing the vision of President Sheikh Mohammed by supporting countries in all situations, irrespective of race or religion. The ERC delegation has successfully concluded the initial phase of the UAE's aid to the typhoon-affected areas in Sorsogon, the province most severely hit by the storm. Humanitarian aid was distributed across the municipalities of Bulan, Irosin, Coban, Kasi Goran, and Sorsogon City.
This marks the second delegation to oversee the relief operations. UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi highlighted the robust bilateral relations between the UAE and the Philippines. He stated that the UAE's assistance to those affected by the typhoon is a responsibility rooted in the bonds of human fraternity between the two nations, noting the UAE's consistent support for the humanitarian conditions in the Philippines.
Rex Gatchalian, the Secretary of Social Welfare and Development of the Philippines, lauded the UAE's initiative and its swift response in providing support to the typhoon victims. He also commended the efforts of the Emirates Red Crescent delegation for their prompt arrival in the disaster zones.
