Emirati swimmer Maha Al Shehhi secured the 28th position in the women’s 200-metre freestyle heats at the Paris Olympics on Sunday. Al Shehhi recorded a time of 2:17.17 in the event, as confirmed by the UAE’s National Olympic Committee on X, formerly Twitter.
In judo, UAE's Bashirat Khordi was defeated by Germany's Masha Ballhaus in the under-52 kg round of 16. Earlier, Khordi had triumphed in her round of 32 match against China’s Zhou Balibun. Another UAE judoka, Narmond Bayan, faced defeat in the under-66 kg round of 32 against South Korea's An Paul.
A 14-member UAE team is participating in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. During the opening ceremony, equestrian Omar Al Marzouqi and cyclist Safiya Al Sayegh carried the UAE's flag. Al Marzouqi, who won silver in individual showjumping at the 2018 Youth Olympics, contributed to the UAE's team bronze and individual silver at the Asian Games in China last year.
The UAE's national equestrian team will compete against 20 others in the show jumping competition starting in early August, followed by individual events on August 5-6. Safiya Al Sayegh, the first Emirati female cyclist to qualify for the Olympics, will participate in the 158-km women’s road race on August 4, aiming to showcase her best for her country.
