The UAE has expressed its profound concern regarding the escalating violence in Sudan, particularly the targeting of women, children, and the elderly in Al Jazirah state. This violence has led to the tragic loss of innocent lives and injuries among the civilian population.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, highlighted the UAE's alarm over reports of sexual violence against women and girls, the looming threat of famine, and the ongoing suffering and displacement of thousands of civilians. The minister urged the warring parties in Sudan to resume dialogue, honor their commitments under the Jeddah Declaration, and adhere to the mechanisms proposed by the Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS) to facilitate safe, urgent, and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid.
Sheikh Shakhboot also emphasized the necessity for all parties to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law. He underscored the critical importance of safeguarding civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law and ensuring they are not subjected to harm during conflicts. The minister reiterated the UAE's steadfast call for an immediate ceasefire and its unwavering support for efforts aimed at achieving national consensus, leading to the establishment of a civilian-led government that aligns with the Sudanese people's aspirations for development and prosperity.
