The UAE embassy in Manila has urged citizens living in the Philippines to be cautious due to severe flooding. This warning is issued as the Southeast Asian country faces heavy rainfall due to Typhoon Gaemi intensifying the southwest monsoon. The embassy emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines provided by local authorities. In emergencies, contact the helplines 0097180024 or 0097180044444. The embassy also encouraged UAE nationals to register for the Twajudi service, an initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at enhancing communication with citizens overseas.
In response to the flooding, educational institutions at all levels and most government offices in the Philippines have suspended operations, and trading in stocks and foreign exchange has been halted. Manila's airport authority reported 13 flight cancellations on Wednesday. The Philippine coastguard noted that 354 passengers and 31 vessels were stranded at ports. However, flights between the UAE and Manila are operating normally, with no suspensions announced. A spokesperson for Philippine Airlines (PAL) confirmed that flights to and from Dubai are still operating as usual. Budget carrier Cebu Pacific (CebPac) and Dubai-based Emirates have not yet issued any announcements. Abu Dhabi-based Etihad confirmed that there have been no disruptions to flights.
