President Sheikh Mohamed has enacted Federal Decree No. 27 of 2024 to create the UAE Aid Agency, which is under the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council. The agency will possess its own legal identity and full authority to operate. Its mandate includes executing foreign aid initiatives in alignment with the broader policy on international humanitarian matters. This involves planning, managing, executing, and tracking official government aid, with a focus on disaster response, early recovery efforts, post-conflict stabilization, developmental projects, and capacity-building programs.
Speaking at the launch of the UAE Aid Agency, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Vice-President and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, noted, "The formation of the UAE Aid Agency is a continuation of the enduring humanitarian legacy established by our Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan." This initiative underscores the UAE's commitment to tackling global humanitarian issues and promoting sustainable development worldwide. The country's efforts are guided by the visionary leadership and steadfast support of President Sheikh Mohamed, reflecting the shared dedication of the leadership, government, and people to this noble humanitarian cause.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, commented, "The creation of the UAE Aid Agency reinforces the UAE's role in providing crucial aid, enhancing living standards, and supporting communities and individuals across the globe." He highlighted the UAE's pledge to work with international allies to generate meaningful and lasting improvements, particularly in areas affected by crises and instability, focusing on key sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure to achieve sustainable development and prosperity for all.
Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs and Chairman of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, stated, "With the establishment of the UAE Aid Agency, we are reaffirming our dedication to resolving global humanitarian issues and advancing sustainable development in a strategic and coordinated fashion." He further explained that the agency aims to amplify the impact of the UAE's foreign aid by optimizing the outcomes of humanitarian relief programs, initiatives, and developmental projects worldwide, in line with the UAE's standing in regional and international humanitarian and developmental endeavors.
The UAE is recognized as one of the world's most significant donor nations. Recent data indicates that since its inception under the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE has provided over $98 billion (Dh360 billion) in foreign aid, benefiting more than one billion people globally.
