The United Arab Emirates has successfully facilitated a new exchange of captives between Russia and Ukraine, resulting in the release of 190 individuals, bringing the total number of exchanged captives through UAE's mediation efforts to 1,558.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed gratitude to the governments of Russia and Ukraine for their cooperation with the UAE's mediation efforts, which occurred less than a month after the previous exchange. These efforts underscore the UAE's dedication to serving as a reliable mediator and supporting diplomatic solutions to the crisis between the two nations.

The Ministry highlighted that the success of this sixth mediation since the start of the year is a result of the UAE's strong relationships and partnerships with both parties. Additionally, the authority reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to continuing all efforts and initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and de-escalation as the only viable means to resolve the conflict and mitigate its humanitarian impacts.

Notably, since the beginning of this year, the UAE's mediation efforts have successfully completed five exchanges of war captives between Russia and Ukraine, and also facilitated a successful exchange of two prisoners between the United States and Russia in December 2022.
