The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced that the annual national influenza campaign in the UAE will commence on Monday, September 9. This seasonal initiative is designed to raise awareness about the significance of influenza vaccination. It will also provide medical professionals with up-to-date international prevention strategies and enhance vaccine coverage for specific groups.

The campaign will target all sectors of the population, including citizens, residents, government and private sector employees, and healthcare workers. Special emphasis will be placed on those most susceptible to severe flu complications, such as the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic health conditions.

This initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Emirates Health Services (EHS), Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DoH), Dubai Health Authority (DHA), and Dubai Health. MoHAP's annual flu campaign is integral to the national strategy aimed at immunizing the community and protecting public health. The campaign seeks to implement essential preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus and educate the public on the causes, symptoms, and preventive methods of influenza.

According to the World Health Organisation, seasonal influenza is an acute respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses. These viruses are widespread globally, and while most people recover without treatment, influenza can spread rapidly through coughing or sneezing. Vaccination remains the most effective means to prevent the disease and mitigate its transmission.
