Food served at McDonald's outlets in the UAE is free from E. coli bacteria, according to UAE authorities who spoke on Friday. The Ministry of Climate Change & Environment confirmed in a post that the fast food chain's offerings are safe. The statement added, "UAE regulatory authorities continue to conduct regular inspections to ensure that all food facilities meet safety and quality standards."
In the US, an E. coli outbreak has affected people across the West and Midwest, resulting in one death and 10 hospitalizations due to serious complications, as reported by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC and McDonald's are currently investigating the company's supplies of slivered onions and beef patties to pinpoint the cause of the outbreak. The US Department of Agriculture suggested on Wednesday that the onions used were likely the source of the illness, although one of its state partners is testing samples of the beef for E. coli.
