The UAE mission in Houston is urging citizens of the country living in the US to remain vigilant as Hurricane Beryl is forecasted to hit near Houston on Monday, July 8.
As the hurricane approaches Houston and its surrounding areas, it is anticipated to intensify into a Category 2 storm. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a social media update, has advised its citizens to adhere to safety guidelines provided by local authorities. Additionally, they should be aware of the following emergency contact numbers: 0097180024 or 0097180044444.
Hurricane Beryl gained strength on Sunday as it approached the Texas coastline, leading to the shutdown of significant oil ports, flight cancellations, and warnings of potential fatalities for affected communities. These closures may disrupt the export of crude oil, deliveries to refineries, and the distribution of motor fuel from these facilities.
Beryl, which was the earliest recorded Category 5 hurricane, recently swept through Jamaica, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, causing structural damage, power outages, and resulting in at least 11 deaths, according to Reuters. Although the storm weakened after its destructive path through the Caribbean, it re-intensified into a Category 1 hurricane as it moved across the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
