The organising committee for the UAE National Day celebrations has announced that the official name for the event is 'Eid Al Etihad'. This name underscores the theme of 'union' (Etihad) and commemorates the unification of the Emirates on December 2, 1971. The theme is pivotal to the nation's identity, embodying heritage, unity, strength, and national pride.
Each year on December 2, the UAE hosts a grand celebration typically attended by the Rulers of the Emirates. The venue for this year's event remains undisclosed, but the committee has revealed that there will be various activations in 'Eid Al Etihad zones' across all seven Emirates on the day. The upcoming National Day holiday marks the final long weekend of 2024, with December 2 and 3 falling on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, creating a four-day holiday when combined with the weekend.
Eisa Alsubousi, director of Strategic and Creative Affairs for the Organising Committee of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad Celebration, stated: “We are thrilled to invite everyone to partake in the joy of this historic occasion, celebrating the unification of the seven emirates. To facilitate these festivities, we have developed comprehensive guides to inspire and aid in preparations for a sustainable celebration. We urge government entities, private companies, schools, and families to access these resources and join in commemorating this significant event.”
The 53rd Eid Al Etihad will emphasize sustainability and collaboration. Residents are encouraged to engage thoughtfully by reducing waste, recycling or upcycling existing materials, and reusing resources. “For instance, we can repurpose existing decorations to celebrate Eid Al Etihad. The 53rd Eid Al Etihad activities are accompanied by guides on how to participate sustainably, whether at home, school, or work. There are always ways to contribute consciously and make a positive impact,” the organisers noted.
