UAE President Sheikh Mohamed visited the Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., as part of his official visit to the United States. During his tour, he explored the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Paediatric Surgical Innovation, which offers cutting-edge treatments in paediatric surgery from various countries worldwide.
Sheikh Mohamed was briefed on the advanced technologies and innovations developed by the institute, including the "miniature pacemaker" designed for infants. He had first seen this groundbreaking device in 2019, and today, thanks to UAE support, it is utilized in over 40 paediatric patients, five of whom are newborns.
Additionally, the President was informed about the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Command Centre, which employs sophisticated artificial intelligence to diagnose and proactively detect critical medical conditions such as cardiac arrests, thereby enhancing treatment success rates and saving lives. This centre facilitates remote medical consultations with doctors globally, including those from Abu Dhabi and the UAE field hospital in Gaza.
During his visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with the families of several Emirati children receiving treatment, inquiring about their health and the progress of their care. He emphasized that the well-being of the nation's children, regardless of their location, is a paramount priority for the UAE.
Over the past years, the UAE has invested $150 million to support the establishment of the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Paediatric Surgical Innovation and $30 million to create the Research and Innovation Complex. These contributions are part of the country's broader vision to enhance the lives of children worldwide by advancing life-saving treatments and improving the quality of innovative healthcare services provided to them.
