Starting September 1, UAE-based travelers who are eligible for e-visas to Japan can apply through VFS Global. Applications are available at VFS Global branches located in Wafi Mall, Dubai, and The Mall, Abu Dhabi.
The visa application centers at these locations were officially opened by VFS Global and the Japanese missions in the UAE on Thursday. Applicants can schedule appointments for both short- and long-term visas online at no additional cost. A service fee of Dh100 is required at the centers, in addition to the visa fee.
As previously reported by Khaleej Times, the e-visa service was temporarily halted for some UAE residents in April, necessitating applications through the consulate. However, the Japanese missions will now only accept applications via VFS Global.
The Consul General of Japan to Dubai, Imanishi Jun, highlighted the partnership with VFS Global to address the growing number of visa applications. He expressed hope that the new center will enhance travel convenience and foster people-to-people exchanges between Japan and the UAE.
VFS Global's involvement is restricted to administrative tasks such as collecting application forms and documents. The company plays no part in the decision-making process regarding visa approvals or denials, which remains the exclusive domain of the Embassy and the Consulate.
