Residents in the UAE spend an average of Dh7,600 annually on health, and a significant majority believe that the healthcare system has improved over the past decade and will continue to do so in the coming years, according to a recent study released on Wednesday.

A new report from Brand Finance reveals that 81 percent of residents are satisfied with the UAE's healthcare system. Nearly 8 out of 10 residents reported a 'very caring experience' from the country's healthcare providers. Additionally, 84 percent of residents feel that the quality of healthcare in the Emirates has improved over the past ten years, with the same percentage anticipating further advancements in the next decade. This positive outlook highlights the impact of substantial investments in the UAE's healthcare sector.

"In an era where healthcare access and quality are global priorities, the UAE's investments in its healthcare system are showing remarkable results," said Richard Haigh, managing director of Brand Finance. "However, challenges persist. With an average annual healthcare expenditure of Dh7,600 ($2,100) per person, 64 percent of residents still view UAE's healthcare as expensive," Haigh added.

The research surveyed 2,000 residents, comprising 21 percent citizens and 79 percent expatriates. Only 6 percent of expatriates believe that their home country's healthcare system is superior to the UAE's. Approximately 78 percent of UAE residents find it easy to maintain a healthy lifestyle through activities like exercise and healthy eating, suggesting that facilities such as gyms, parks, and healthy food options are readily accessible.

The study also examined residents' perceptions of various healthcare providers, finding that Seha is the top-rated brand both nationally and in Abu Dhabi. Seha excels in key areas, including admiration, trust, likelihood of recommendation, and ratings for security, comfort, and the quality of doctors and nurses. In Dubai, Aster emerged as the highest-rated brand, while Sheikh Khalifa (Seha) was recognized as the most highly regarded individual hospital across the nation. The National Health Insurance Company (Daman) is perceived as the best health insurance brand nationally, leading in metrics such as admiration, trust, likelihood of recommendation, and comfort.
