The biggest private school operator in the UAE has recruited nearly 2,000 teachers in preparation for the new school year, according to Dino Varkey, the group CEO of GEMS Education. He disclosed this during a media round-table in Dubai on Tuesday, stating, "We have brought on board 1,850 new teaching staff, which is a bit lower than last year's hires due to our successful staff retention efforts."
Additionally, the group is launching two new schools and expanding capacity at several existing ones to accommodate growing demand. Varkey mentioned, "We are opening a GEMS Founders branch in Abu Dhabi's Masdar City and another in Dubai South. The Founders model has proven very popular and has attracted significant interest."
GEMS World Academy is one of the schools increasing its capacity this academic year by opening a new building for its senior school. Dr. Saima Rana, Deputy CEO of GEMS Education, explained, "The new facility is adjacent to our current building and will serve Grades 9 through 12, adding 1,200 new seats. Last year, we faced a substantial waiting list, indicating a clear need. Thus, we decided to expand to meet this demand."
