The UAE has emerged as a premier destination for dream weddings, attracting couples who prefer extravagant ceremonies, according to industry experts. Stefine Heller, a wedding planner from Jam Weddings and Events, noted a 20 percent rise in wedding budgets over the past two years. "New technologies are now part of wedding planning," Heller explained. "Clients often send us AI-generated designs that resemble fairy tales, but they are currently too expensive to produce. We once created a setup inspired by an AI image, and it turned out beautifully. Naturally, such intricate ceiling decorations add to the cost."
The term 'AI wedding designs' refers to the use of artificial intelligence to create stunning and personalized wedding concepts. These designs often feature elaborate elements like bespoke lighting, extensive ceiling decor, and unconventional themes that go beyond traditional wedding aesthetics. Another expert, Kunal Rupani, spokesperson for The Big Night, a wedding planning firm, highlighted AI's significant impact on wedding trends. "AI has enabled larger-scale decor themes and overall designs, which have increased wedding budgets. Technology is also increasingly integrated into decor to achieve seamless design outcomes," he said.
Social media and technological advancements have reshaped client expectations, driving the demand for detailed settings and AI-integrated decor. A recent example that garnered international attention was the Ambani wedding in India, which reportedly cost Dh2.2 billion, making it one of the most expensive weddings ever. Rupani commented, "This wedding was on an international scale and has set a new standard for planners worldwide." He predicts a growing number of destination weddings and social events in the UAE, which is rapidly becoming the top destination for such events.
Rupani also attributes the rising costs of weddings in Dubai to global inflation, affecting everything from venue rentals to floral arrangements. "Prices for everything, including venues, food, florals, and other wedding essentials, have increased due to global inflation," he noted. Additionally, Dubai's strategic location enhances its appeal as a wedding venue, offering easy access to global entertainment and nearby cities like Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.
Stefine Heller emphasized the importance of prioritizing and budgeting. "Couples should identify their top priorities and invest accordingly," she advised. Both experts agreed on the significance of key wedding elements like floral arrangements, lighting, and entertainment. Rupani added, "As a wedding planner, you collaborate with numerous partners to bring the vision to life." Pricing is influenced by various factors, including production, sound and lighting equipment, flowers, and entertainment. Despite rising costs, Heller maintains good relationships with her vendors, ensuring competitive prices while upholding quality.
