Up to nine water dams are set to be constructed as part of a new package of construction projects in the UAE, according to an announcement made on Friday.

The ambitious plan, which is part of the 'Initiatives of the UAE President', aims to increase the country's water storage capacity to 8 million cubic metres. This initiative is designed to enhance rainwater collection and mitigate the risk of floods in residential areas. Additionally, the project seeks to strengthen the nation's infrastructure in response to climate change.

In addition to constructing new dams, the plan includes the expansion of two existing dams and the installation of a series of rubble barriers. The project is scheduled to be completed within 19 months and will cover 13 residential areas. These areas include Shis and Khorfakkan city in Sharjah; Masfout area in Ajman; Shaam and Al Fahalin in Ras Al Khaimah; Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Hail, Al Qaryah, Qidfa, Marbah, Dhadna, Al Seiji, and Al Ghazimri areas in Fujairah.

Further details are expected to be released soon.
