The UAE has secured the top position among Arab states participating in a prestigious international assessment that evaluates the progress of eighth and fourth-grade students in science and mathematics. Over 64 countries took part in this study, which is conducted every four years. Compared to the TIMSS study in 2019, fourth-grade students showed a significant improvement, with their performance in mathematics increasing by 17 points and in science by 22 points. Similarly, eighth-grade students also demonstrated notable progress, with a 15-point rise in mathematics and a 14-point increase in science.

The short-term trend results indicate a larger gap in achievement between boys and girls in TIMSS 2023 compared to TIMSS 2019, particularly in fourth-grade mathematics. The report underscores a direct correlation between home resources and the academic success of fourth- and eighth-grade students in mathematics and science globally. TIMSS and PIRLS are international assessments that track trends in student achievement across mathematics, science, and reading.

The TIMSS 2023 International Report and Results were unveiled at the Museum of the Future in Dubai on December 4. This event, hosted in collaboration with the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), the TIMSS, PIRLS International Study Centre at Boston College, and the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Education, featured live-streamed presentations highlighting the latest data from TIMSS 2023.
