Skipper Muhammad Waseem led the charge with a brilliant unbeaten 89 off 50 balls as the UAE secured a 40-run victory over Namibia in the opening match of the T20 tri-series in Windhoek on Sunday.

Waseem's knock helped the UAE set a new record for their highest T20 international score, finishing at 245 for two. Young opener Alishan Sharafu contributed significantly with a rapid 73 off just 33 balls, forming a formidable 130-run opening partnership with Waseem in only 10.3 overs.

Asif Khan (39 off 22 balls) and Basil Hameed (37 not out off 15 balls) also made crucial contributions, ensuring the UAE ended their innings on a high note. Namibia, despite their best efforts, struggled to keep up with the target, eventually finishing at 205 for eight.

Opener JP Kotze was the standout performer for the hosts with a well-played 55. Muhammad Jawadullah, Ali Naseer, and Basil each claimed two wickets for the UAE. The team now looks forward to their next match against the USA on Monday.
