UAE's Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation introduced an unemployment insurance scheme in January 2023, applicable to all national and expatriate employees across public and private sectors. Participation in the UAE's ILOE insurance scheme is legally mandatory for all government and private sector employees, including those in Freezones, who must subscribe to the ILOE policy. Non-compliance with this requirement results in a Dh400 fine. Both Emiratis and expats who enrolled in the ILOE (Involuntary Loss of Employment Insurance) at the beginning of 2023 have been receiving renewal notices. The renewal process can be initiated before the policy expires or shortly after. Here's a step-by-step guide to facilitate the renewal:

To renew your ILOE insurance:

1. Go to the official ILOE insurance website: https://www.iloe.ae/

2. Click on the red 'Subscribe/Renew Here' button for renewal.

3. A new page will load. Under the 'Individual' category, choose the appropriate option: Private sector, Federal Government employee (Public sector), or Non-Registered in MOHRE (Free-zone workers).

4. Click 'Confirm'.

5. Sign in using OPT or an existing account via an OTP code sent to your mobile or registered login credentials. If using OPT, provide your Emirates ID, registered mobile number, and date of birth.

6. Select to renew your insurance policy, verify your details, and select the policy term.

7. Choose 'Renew' or 'Subscribe' and proceed to the card payment section.

8. Enter your card details; upon successful payment, your ILOE insurance will be renewed for a year.

In case of any issues during subscription or renewal, contact ILOE customer care at 600599555.

The ILOE program is categorized into two:

1. Employees earning a basic salary of Dh16,000 or less per month pay an insurance cost of Dh5 monthly or Dh60 annually.

2. Those earning more than Dh16,000 pay Dh10 monthly or Dh120 annually.

To claim the policy, terminated employees must submit their claim within 30 days of unemployment through the e-portal, smart application, or ILOE call center. Eligibility for job loss payments requires at least 12 months of insurance subscription without termination for disciplinary reasons or resignation. Compensation is processed within two weeks and limited to three months per claim.

Notably, ILOE insurance is not mandatory for all UAE residents. It excludes investors, business owners, domestic helpers, part-time workers, minors, and retirees with pension rights who start new jobs.

Compensation benefits are calculated as 60% of the average basic salary over the last six months before involuntary unemployment. The maximum monthly benefits are Dh10,000 for Category A and Dh20,000 for Category B, with a maximum compensation period of three consecutive months per claim.
