On Sunday, Ukraine declared a compulsory evacuation of children and their guardians from regions in the Donetsk area, as Russia has been reporting progress in the area over the past few days.

"The adversary is daily bombarding the towns and villages within these communities, prompting the decision to evacuate children along with their parents or legal guardians," stated Donetsk governor Vadym Filashkin, specifying the towns and villages in the directions where Russia claimed to have made gains.

Russia announced on Sunday that its military had captured the village of Novoselivka Persha in eastern Ukraine, marking another in a series of frontline advancements claimed by Moscow in the past few weeks. As the conflict enters its third year, neither Kyiv nor Moscow has been able to decisively shift the battle in their favor, despite Moscow's forces making territorial gains in recent months.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that forces had "liberated the settlement of Novoselivka Persha," located in the Donetsk region approximately 20km northwest of Avdiivka, which was taken by Russia in February. Moscow has claimed to have seized a series of villages in the Donetsk region in recent weeks—many of which are small, consisting of only a few streets. Russia asserted the annexation of the Donetsk region, along with three others in eastern and southern Ukraine, in 2022, despite not having full control over it.
