Ukraine's top commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated on Sunday that the situation around Russia's primary offensive in eastern Ukraine is "difficult," but assured that all necessary decisions are being promptly made. Syrskyi did not specify the exact location of the main Russian attack, but both he and President Volodymyr Zelenskiy previously mentioned that Russian forces are aiming at the strategically significant city of Pokrovsk.

"The situation is difficult in the direction of the enemy's main attack. But all the necessary decisions at all levels are being made without delay," Syrskyi conveyed via the Telegram messaging app. He recently reported spending several days at the eastern front near Pokrovsk, characterizing the combat there as "exceptionally tough."

Russia, having seized large portions of eastern Ukraine since its full-scale invasion in February 2022, continues to make slow progress amid intense fighting. This progress has persisted following Ukraine's unexpected incursion into Russia's western Kursk region on August 6, which seems to be aimed at diverting Russian resources and bolstering Kyiv's stance in potential future negotiations.
