Ukraine is set to reduce electricity supply for certain consumers on Monday, according to the Ukrainian power grid operator and the energy ministry, due to a deficit in power generation caused by Russian assaults on its energy infrastructure and higher consumption from hot weather.

Since the spring, Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine's energy sector have escalated, leading to widespread blackouts and prompting Kyiv to initiate substantial electricity imports from the European Union. Ukrenergo announced that the power cuts will be enforced from 5pm to 9pm Kyiv time.

In July, Ukraine drastically curtailed energy supplies for the maintenance of several critical nuclear power units and due to record-breaking high temperatures. The restrictions were largely lifted in August following the return of reactors to service and a decrease in temperatures. Ukrainian officials have reported that the country has lost nearly half of its power production capacity as a result of the attacks.
