France called in Israel's ambassador on Friday to demand an explanation after Israeli troops targeted positions held by U.N. peacekeepers, including the Naqoura base in southern Lebanon, according to a statement from the foreign ministry.
"These actions are grave breaches of international law and must cease immediately," the ministry stated. France contributes around 700 troops to the UNIFIL mission, none of whom have been injured thus far.
The ministry emphasized that all parties involved in the conflict are duty-bound to safeguard peacekeepers.
