The Uncharted movie continues to progress, with recent developments adding more excitement to the project. After it was announced that Travis Knight, the director of Bumblebee, would be taking the helm, news has now surfaced that Mark Wahlberg is in the process of joining the cast alongside Tom Holland.
According to Variety, Wahlberg is in 'final talks' to portray Victor 'Sully' Sullivan in the film adaptation of the popular video game. Sullivan is characterized as an American treasure hunter, fortune seeker, and businessman, who also happens to be a close friend of the main character, Nathan Drake, a role that Holland is set to play. Sullivan is a well-known character in the video game series, making his presence in the movie highly anticipated.
This isn't Wahlberg's first involvement with a movie version of Uncharted. Back in 2007, he was originally slated to play the role of Drake, with David O. Russell (known for American Hustle and The Fighter) set to write and direct. However, Russell departed the project in 2011, and the film has since been in a state of development limbo. With Knight now on board as director, replacing Dan Trachtenberg, the project seems to be gaining momentum once again.
Knight's successful track record includes a major hit with Bumblebee, his first live-action film, and an Oscar nomination for the acclaimed animated movie Kubo and the Two Strings. Fans of the Uncharted series can look forward to the film's release on December 18, 2020.
