At the beginning of Path of Exile 2, you'll receive a Lesser Life Flask and a Lesser Mana Flask. These are adequate for the initial areas and foes, but the difficulty escalates swiftly. To keep up with the increasing challenge in Path of Exile 2, you must acquire superior Life and Mana Flasks. Fortunately, the game simplifies the upgrade process, enabling you to heal more effectively and restore mana quicker.

There are several methods to equip stronger flasks in Path of Exile 2, all involving replacing your current flasks. As you progress and defeat more enemies, you might find a new Life or Mana Flask. Each new flask you discover will have varying attributes, sometimes weaker or stronger than your current one. For instance, a new Mana Flask might restore more mana but have fewer charges. You can identify a better flask by examining the adjective in its name; 'Grand Life Flask' is typically superior to 'Greater Life Flask'. However, other factors beyond the name should be considered when selecting a flask.

Higher rarity flasks often come with additional modifiers, prefixes, and suffixes that alter their performance and even enhance your stats. One flask might boost your recovery rate, while another could increase or decrease the flask's charges. You can also use Orbs of Augmentation to add new modifiers to magic items (blue highlighted items). If your flask isn't a magic item, use an Orb of Transmutation to convert it into one, allowing it to be equipped with additional modifiers.

Acquiring new flasks is somewhat limited. You can buy new flasks from certain shop vendors in the towns across Path of Exile 2's three Acts in early access. Early vendors include Renly, Luna, and Finn in Clearfell Encampment during Act 1. However, these vendors often overcharge, and you'll frequently find better flasks by defeating enemies. Most flasks obtained from enemy drops start as 'unidentified'. To identify them, use a Scroll of Wisdom on the item in your inventory. Scrolls of Wisdom can be found as enemy drops or purchased from certain vendors (like Luna in Clearfell).

As you advance, The Hooded One can identify items for free. Once you find a new flask you wish to use and it's identified, swap it with your current one in your inventory. When selecting a Life or Mana Flask, prioritize stats like the number of charges and the amount of HP/Mana restored. Most flasks hold 70-80 charges, and the description will indicate how many charges are used per use. For example, a flask using 10 charges per use with 75 total charges can be used seven times before needing a recharge.

Modifiers also influence your choice. While you can add more modifiers, those from Orbs of Augmentation are random. If a flask starts with decent modifiers, it's generally preferable unless you get a better random modifier on another flask. As you progress, you'll better understand your preferred flask behavior. Always keep an eye out for higher rarity flasks as you navigate the early access Acts and the endgame.
